Full Cry Hounds
Full Cry is a painting of hounds on scent by Gail Guirreri-Maslyk.
"Following hounds with a camera is not as easy as it looks. I can remember when I first started out I was lucky enough to follow Melvin Poe. Hounds would be headed in one direction and we would be in another direction. But he knew they would end up in our lap. Sure enough they would come roaring up a hill in front of us some time later after patiently enjoying the quiet country view chatting about horses, hounds and time gone by."
"This image is of Snickersville Hounds, a private pack owned by Eva Smithwick and managed by Gale Casey Rives. I had the pleasure to spend some summer mornings on walks with them before the heat of the day. Hounds know the season is coming at the end of the summer. Their clock was ticking and building momentum. Keeping them packed up becomes more challenging and once in a while one will give a try. It is only a few seconds but somehow I captured an old faithful hound with the biggest voice ever. I used hot and cold colors to describe the day. Shadows were cool and deep, but the sun and energy was plenty warm. I had avoided my phthalo turquoise for most of my paintings preparing for Tally Ho Holiday Art but as I was nearing the deadline I couldn't help but pull it out for at least one canvas. In my eye, it was the perfect tube of paint to compliment my new favorite earth red, transparent red ochre PR102."
