Cloverlone Mare Field Sunset

Cloverlone Holsteiner Mares at Sunset painted by Gail Guirreri, equineimpressions.com

Cloverlone Mare Field Sunset is a quick study oil on canvas painting by Gail Guirreri.

"This study of my own mares in late afternoon Fall light is painted in my original palette of transparent orange, phthalo turquoise and quin magenta. It's a palette I pushed for many years and the one most people who know my work are familiar with. It's bright, exciting and full of depth. Truly, I can not go wrong with these colors. This drawing I find impressive and represents the character of who I am as a painter. Each time the brush hit the canvas, the mark was on target. A painting developed in single strokes takes years of experience. As the more complicated paintings get developed, the initial raw inspiration can be lost should it take more than a couple sessions to complete. My mood and reaction to what I see can change in a day's time. I paint strongly from the subconscious with emotions of the subject taking hold of my brush. This is why I am so careful to choose a successful limited palette. With it I can forget about the colors mixing well and just react to the subject quickly. It has taken me thirty years of drawing, painting and calculating colors to successfully pull off these drawings in oil."
