Fine and Sporting Artist Gail Guirreri-Maslyk

Artist Gail Guirreri-Maslyk and spotted Holsteiner stallion Broadway boogie-woogie

Local equestrian artist Gail Guirreri is best known for her unique impressionistic brush strokes, color choices and direct interaction with her subjects. With a lifetime of travel, Gail's art education began at a very young age in museums and town squares around the world. The influence of large bronze sculptures can be seen in Gail's style as she sculpts her paint into form. Over the last 35 years Gail's palette has continued to evolve into more rare and unique pigments. Gail studies pigments and their mixing range before choosing a handful of tubes to use in a composition. Choosing a small palette frees her to paint quickly and follow her intuition that can bring movement into any object. More often than not, the subject of her painting can be caught looking directly at you as if you’re glimpsing in on a private moment.

Gail has had a number of solo shows over the last few years. These shows can still be seen on her web site equineimpressions.com. Gail's favorite hanging spaces are large walls with high ceilings and changing light. More recently Gail has worked on small gesture paintings that develop palettes for future large works. To view some of her work hanging in public spaces, visit Salamander Resort and Spa at the concierge desk and in the equestrian facility lobby (Middleburg, VA), The Ashby Inn (Paris, VA) and Larkin's Tack Shop (Marshall, VA). She has shown numerous works in The Sporting Library and Museum (Middleburg, VA), MFHA Centennial Tour that traveled USA and Canada, Golden Ocala Country Club, Kentucky Derby, Virginia Senate building among other numerous juried art shows. Gail has recently moved her studio to Unison, VA and receives visitors by appointment. Gail is taking commissions for life portraits and offers instruction on her style of painting in private or small group lessons.
