The Byrne Gallery hosts artist Gail Guirreri-Maslyk in a Gallery Talk reviewing her equestrian and sporting art exhibition Hunt Country Impressions on Saturday September 19, 2020 2-4pm.
Gail will be sharing her process of paint application, how that has evolved over the last five years as well as her palette of transparent verses opaque pigments with some side notes on varnishing and mediums. Though it may sound like a discussion for artists only, it truly is enlightening to understand as a viewer how a canvas is developed. Gail will explain, "There is magic required from both sides of the brain, calculating and letting go at the same time. It is quite similar to riding a horse well. You must have all your tools in the subconcious, muscle memory. A great rider will allow oneself to let go enough to have soft following hands and yet effective to balance the horse before what is coming. A great artist should be decisive without forced thought and never fussy with the brush."
The Byrne Gallery is located 7 West Washington Street, Middleburg VA 20117. Please phone the gallery for private appointments at 540-687-6986.
